As mentioned previously, the Galungan Festival time is also rapidly approaching. This time Galungan (held once every 210 days) will fall on August 2nd, while Kuningan – the end of the main part of this holiday time, is 10 days later. This is a Bali-wide festival time, where the Balinese feel a particular pull towards returning to their ancestral homes for at least a visit, giving prayers at the family temple. It is a time for people to get rigged out in their ‘Sunday best’, spending what they can afford to make this time very special. For instance, around KLUB KOKOS, while most local people cannot afford meat as a regular part of their daily diet, eating mainly rice, dried fish and vegetables, during Galungan there would generally be meat served – chicken and pork – as well as an extra effort to deck the family out with new clothes for the occasion.
